Oncology Bodywork and Massage

What is Oncology Massage?

Oncology Massage is a complementary medicine therapy designed for people with cancer histories, in cancer treatment, those who have had lymph nodes removed or radiated, as well as those in the final stages of life. Oncology massage complements standard cancer therapies with the potential to reduce side effects resulting from radiation, chemotherapy and surgery. It also provides an opportunity to calm the stress, fear and anxiety associated with a cancer diagnosis. Clients have shared that it has helped them tolerate their treatments better.

Oncology Massage is designed not to overwhelm an already compromised body system. As a result of specific adjustments made to the massage and bodywork, cancer patients can safely receive massage at all stages of treatment. This includes long time survivors who may require special considerations due to lasting side effects or risks, and those who are hospitalized.

What are the Benefits of Oncology Massage?

This gentle touch therapy has been adapted to the needs of the cancer body, offering you a safe option to alleviate the often debilitating side effects associated with medical treatments. Studies have shown reductions in pain, fatigue, nausea, anxiety and depression. It can also help ease the frustration and discomfort of long-term symptoms that may persist. Clients often share other benefits that have not been completely studied. Gentle Scar Tissue Mobilization specifically addresses the pain and range of motion concerns that develop as a result of surgery, radiation and reconstruction.

How is Oncology Massage different from other forms of Massage?

In addition to the adjustments referred to above, your session may involve other forms of bodywork better suited to your bodies specific needs, including acupressure and reflexology.

For those who are unable to travel, I offer oncology massage and bodywork in the privacy of your own home, or in a hospital or clinic setting, pending permission from the establishment.
